Cape Florida Lighthouse Celebrates 200th Anniversary Kickoff

Perched on the southern tip of Key Biscayne in Miami-Dade County, Florida, the Cape Florida lighthouse is the county’s oldest historic structure. This week starts a year-long celebration of the iconic landmark located at Bill Baggs State Park, culminating in its bicentennial anniversary on December 17, 2025.

Marking two centuries of maritime history and cultural significance, the Cape Florida Light, as it was known, has played a vital role in maritime navigation and the cultural heritage of South Florida. The lighthouse is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in Florida and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Throughout 2025 and leading up to the 200th culmination, an extensive agenda of events will commemorate the Cape Florida Lighthouse’s rich history. The events include storytelling, music, natural sciences, poetry, art, and archeology.
